Title
Seabury to Scoil Iosa - school route
Address of Trail Head
Seabury, Malahide, Fingal, County Dublin, Ireland
How to get there (if it's tricky)
Description of the Trail
This is a 'safe' route to school from Malahide West (Seabury, Killeen, etc.) to Scoil Iosa (Secondary school). This route is part off road (e.g. through Malahide Demesne), part on road. The map shows the trail starting at Seabury Church. Children living to the west of Malahide may join the route wherever it suits them. From the church, make your way to the Swords Road. While it is not strictly legal to cycle on footpaths, the Swords Road is so busy that I would be afraid to let my children cycle on it. I would recommend that children cycle slowly on the foothpath along the Northern side of the Swords Road to the pedestrian crossing at Millview Road. They should cross to the southern side of the road and continue slowly on the footpath to the pedestrian lights on the Dublin Road, which is at the entrance to Malahide Castle. The Castle gates open at 8am on schooldays to allow school children to walk and cycle to school. While in the park, cyclists should travel slowly, being aware that the paths in the park are used by very young children and eldery people alike. Leave the park at the 'Back Road' gate. Be extremely careful crossing the bridge over the railway, as this is narrow and there is no footpath. Cross the road and travel along the path through the Bawn Grove. This will bring you to 'The Hill', which is the road leading to Scoil Iosa. Be very careful at this point, since the footpath is too narrow to cycle on, and the road has no cycle lane marked. There are traffic calming speed bumps on the road, which ensure that cars travel relatively slowly. Enjoy the cycle, and stay safe!
